UPDATE: Baseball, steroids, and second chances
This story should be an encouragement and inspiration to any individual or organization in the process of trying to repair their brand.
According to a story just published by ESPN, former Major League baseball player Jay Gibbons, is expected to get his second chance at being a pro baseball player as early as today. Gibbons expects to sign with a New York or New Jersey based team in the independent Atlantic League.
This second chance of course hasn’t come to Gibbons without great expense however. While he will be paid the $11.9 million remaining on his guaranteed contract with the Baltimore Orioles, the average pay for a player in the Atlantic League is less than $3,000 per month.
As Gibbons pointed out,
I just miss playing baseball; that’s what it comes down to.
In the end, I am hopeful that Gibbons will find success in the Atlantic League and hopefully make a return to MLB someday because I believe everyone deserves a second chance. But in the end, one small decision may lock him out forever.
I welcome your comments.
