Let the speculation begin. Why would Apple need a server farm on the east coast? Is the fact that it’s on the east coast even important? The fact that they are building a server farm at all indicates an expectation on their part to increase web services over the next few years. iTunes Music, Movies, Apps and Games Store growth? Maybe. Improved with more features and more reliability MobileMe service? Maybe. Whatever it is, I’m sure it will be good.

Twitter is exploding. Not exploding like the service or the servers are blowing up and on fire, though the service does still occasionally tank for a few minutes here and there. Exploding in popularity and usage. By all accounts and all reports, Twitter usage is increasing exponentially. Today @Oprah even dedicated her show to the technology. @aplusk (Ashton Kutcher) challenged @cnnbrk (CNN) to see who could acquire one million followers first. There is some evidence now, though, that this may have been a publicity stunt. For all the buzz and all the growth Twitter is experiencing, there are still plenty of folks that have no idea what it is. So for those that want to know more…in plain english…watch this YouTube video.

To translate the stimulus into sustainable growth, we need incentives for business innovators.

via Reid Hoffman – Let Start-Ups Bail Us Out – washingtonpost.com.

This is a good article by the founder and CEO of LinkedIn, a web service for professional networking. If you’re not familiar with it think of it as Facebook for professionals and your “profile” is your résumé. If you’re not familiar with Facebook…where’ve you been??

I like the ideas put forth by Mr. Hoffman as we are, in fact, a small business. We know the triumphs and tragedies of being a small business and working to build a small business. We are actually quite blessed and very fortunate to have some very good clients that are still in need of our services even during these trying economic times. So while we may not need some of what he’s proposing directly, having some of those options available and being able to take advantage of them would certainly be something to consider.

Any other small business owners want to contribute to the conversation?
